REACH’s SVHC list is updated every 6 months.
What are the penalties for REACH non-compliance?
Penalties can include fines and imprisonment. Fines may total up to €30,000 Euros and up to 4 years of imprisonment.
California Prop 65 – What do “No Significant Risk Level” and "Maximum Acceptable Dose Level" mean?
Substances identified as causing cancer are given a metric called “No Significant Risk Level” (NSRL) and Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL). This means that exposure to the amount of chemical in a product would result in no more than one case of cancer out of every 100,000 individuals who were exposed to the chemical over a 70-year time period. Measured in µg per day. Maximum Acceptable Dose Level “MADL” is the level at which a chemical would have no observable effect, even if an individual were exposed to 1,000 times that level.
What are the penalties for Cal Prop 65 non-compliance?
Penalties can include fines and imprisonment. The business can be subject to civil penalties of up to $2,500 per day for each violation.
What is a Conflict Mineral “Roll Up Report”?
Conflict mineral roll up reporting is the process of reporting the use of conflict minerals in a supply chain and reporting on utilized smelters. The conflict mineral reporting template (CMRT) is the free, standardized reporting template that facilitates the transfer of information through the supply chain regarding mineral contry of origin and the smelters and refiners being utilized.
How do I know if my company must create a Conflict Mineral Roll Up Report?
Companies publicly traded in the USA or selling products on the United States market must comply with the Dodd-Frank Act and report on conflict mineral usage.
How can I determine if my product contains Conflict Minerals?
Minerals and metals can be traced to the suppliers and even the smelters where they have been refined. Each smelter is audited and reports on their conflict status.
How are chemical report used? Beyond just yes or no compliant.
Chemical Report, allow users to examine MDS data on BOM level. Users can download a list of all substances, substance mass, CAS #, homogenous materials…etc. This is necessary for many companies to have a complete picture of the materials in the BOM to anticipate regulatory changes, spot hazard, rare and precious substances…etc. which enable our customers to adhere to different regulatory requirements and establish a proactive compliance approach to be ahead of regulatory changes.
What is the difference between SCIP and SVHC.
EU's Chemical Agency (ECHA) manages both SCIP and SVHC.
Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) are chemical substances subject to authorisation under REACH. Currently there are 224 SVHC that are listed on the candidate list. Under REACH regulations, manufacturers and importers must declare any SVHC if they're present. If the SVHC exceeds 0.1% by weight in the product, manufacturers/importers are required to notify their customers.
SCIP is the database for information on Substances of Concern In Products under the Waste Framework Directive (WFD). Companies supply articles containing SVHCs on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) on the EU market have to submit information on these articles to ECHA. The SCIP database ensures that the information on articles containing Candidate List substances is available throughout the whole lifecycle of products and materials, including at the waste stage. The information in the database is then made available to waste operators and consumers.
SEConnect
What is the difference between API and SEConnect?
API is a background data exchange between SiliconExpert and a host tool. The data is brought into the host tool and handled in the background. SEConnect is a plug-in widget with a robust user interface that allows for the SiliconExpert experience embedded within the host tool.
If I have SEConnect, do I get all the data I would get within the full SiliconExpert P5 Platform subscription?
The core data for SEConnect is the same as in P5; however, P5 has full alerting and a much more robust reporting and prediction engine. SEConnect allows you to embed the data within your native ecosystem where as P5 is accessed through our web browser.
Does SEConnect integrate with my broader infrastructure?
Depending on your broader Infrastructure, yes. SEConnect is available in most popular PLM and EDA tools. Visit our partner pages to learn more: https://www.siliconexpert.com/partners/
If I have a SEConnect license, does that license work for all third party platform integrations?
A SEConnect license works wherever you have SEConnect implemented, so you can use it in multiple PLM and EDA tools.
How is SEConnect priced?
One of the SiliconExpert team members will help assist in a quote for SEConnect. Licenses are sold by floating seats meaning that more than one user can use the login but only one user may use it at a time. To enable multiple users access simultaneously, multiple licenses are required.
API
What is an API?
Almost every software company is a database backend with a website frontend for user interface. The user interface is designed to be human-readable, and is great when you're looking for manual hands-on interactions with data. To get computer-readable, automated access to the API, you want to cut out the website middleman and query the database directly. An API or Application Programming Interface is a method by which clients can proxy those queries to a database via structured URLs. Based on the additional values encoded into the URL, you can request data directly from our API, receiving a user-unfriendly, but computer-readable JSON or XML file, which persists within your system, rather than being cleared when you click away from the browser tab.
Should I use a web service like P5 or a direct API?
You can derive data from our web service, P5, or set up automated calls to our API. P5 is best suited for an engineer to query the parts database and make decisions based on a single part. The API access is would be better for a user who wants to set up a large amount of parts-related calls and automate the calls to process directly into a native environment. The API access lacks the user interface and visualization elements of P5, which requires a technical investment to use compared to its browser-based sibling. However, the ability to customize and mechanize your interactions with our database provides high levels of customization and flexiblity.
How do I pick the package and price that is right for me?
API subscriptions are typically sold for one-year increments. There are a few things to consider when picking which package and size best fits your business needs.
1. Estimate the total unique parts (unique part number/manufacturer combination, not part numbers) to be used during contract term. For example, a BAV99 diode from Vishay and a BAV99 diode from Toshiba are two separate unique parts.
2. Determine information and modules needed. Refer to our Silver and Gold packaging.
Talk with one of our API team members today to find the package right for your business needs.
What is the difference between the Silver and Gold packages?
The Silver package contains static information like if a component is obsolete or if it is still active in production. The Gold package has dynamic data and derived information such as the estimated years until a part reaches end of life.
What does it mean to be per part and not per query for the quota?
Unique to SiliconExpert, the clients quota is deducted on a per part basis and not per query. Your quota is decreased for part detail requests to our database; a part search will not decrement your quota. A part detail request will include data such as compliance, parametric, lifecycle, predictive risk, and more. This information is accessible for the remainder of your contract year and will not require another request against your quota. In comparison to competitors, this could be multiple calls against the quota each time a piece of this data is accessed.
What queries will decrement my quota?
The quota will be decremented with the following queries per unique part: Part Detail Search, Add Part to ACL, and cross reference.
How do I check what's left in my quota during my contract term?
Use the User Status command with the POST protocol. https://www.siliconexpert.com/apidocs/#user-status. You will be warned when you approach zero, and you can always revise your quota upwards mid-contract.
What are my options for adjusting my quota?
You can increase your quota during your contract term. If you have excess quota, it will not be refunded or credited. Please contact your SIliconExpert representative for more information.
Where can I find API documentation?
Documentation can be accessed here https://www.siliconexpert.com/apidocs/. If you're not using the 'Product API' as described in our documentation, you're most likely using an outdated version of the API and need to update. Alternatively, you may be using a custom API for your unique needs, in which case, please consult your SIliconExpert account representative.
I have an API subscription, how do I access the data?
First, authenticate your user session, then create a structured query based on a call as outlined in the API documentation (hyperlink to page). If successful, a JSON or XML file will be returned with the results of the query. That data will persist within your system and can be used as needed as long as it is not resold.
I received an error message when authenticating my session.
There are three common points of failure. Please check the following,
1. Ensure that you are using HTTPS, not HTTP, as unsecured calls are blocked.
2. Make sure you are using the POST protocol, and consequently using a tool that supports the POST protocol, rather than the default GET command. We require user-sensitive calls to be made via POST to encode information such as username and API Key / password in such a way that is invisible to potentially malicious actors.
3. Finally, make sure you are querying api.siliconexpert as the endpoint, not app.siliconexpert. The 'api' endpoint is our Modern servers, and the 'app' endpoint pointed to our now-defunct 'Classic' servers.
A call I've used for years has stopped working.
Make sure you are querying api.siliconexpert as the endpoint, not app.siliconexpert. The 'api' endpoint is our modern servers, and the 'app' endpoint pointed to our now-defunct 'Classic' servers.
I use a PLM. Is it a SiliconExpert Partner?
All of SiliconExpert's partners can be found on our Partner Solutions page. If your PLM is not currently listed as a partner, please reach out to a SiliconExpert representative and your PLM to discuss a potential integration.
The API doesn't precisely fit my needs, can you customize a query or implementation for me?
As of today, we do not make changes to our API for individual clients. Our Professional Services team (link to https://www.siliconexpert.com/professional-services/) may be able to help create custom solutions. We constantly leverage feedback to make our services exceed the needs of our clients.
What is the price difference between API and channel partner API and why?
Our API solution is priced consistently whether you purchase them from SE or from a channel partner integration.
Should I purchase from SiliconExpert or a channel partner?
If a client purchases directly through SE, they are responsible for the development work and integrating into their tools; however, it provides the endless customization opportunities to cater to their business needs.
If a client purchases through a channel integration partner, they partner already did the development work and it becomes plug and play in their native tools.
