Five New Substances added to EU REACH Authorization List
April 22, 2022 – The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added five (5) new substances to the European Union’s REACH Authorization list, bringing the list up to 59 total entries. These new substances added to the Authorization list were “due to their reprotoxic, carcinogenic or endocrine-disrupting properties”.
These toxic materials could cause health problems in humans such as respiration issues to convulsions or seizures. Endocrine disruptors, more specifically, are linked to issues in the brain, developmental and reproductive systems. These can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, and developmental disabilities.
These new amendments to the Authorization List (Annex XIV to REACH) were published on 11 April in the EU’s Official Journal and the corresponding sunset dates have been entered into the record. Any substance included on the EU REACH Authorization List requires companies to discontinue use of the substance prior to the sunset date or acquire a special authorization to continue use.
