China RoHS 2024 Update: Four New Restricted Substances Added
By: Joe Corbisiero on October 15th, 2024
The People’s Republic of China is restricting the use of four additional substances in electrical and electronic products through its first amendment to regulation GB/T 26572-2011, better known as China RoHS. The amendment adds four phthalates to the existing list, bringing the total number of restricted substances to ten. China previously announced the intention to restrict these substances in 2022. The new restriction will go into effect in January 2026 and will bring the list of hazardous substances under China RoHS into alignment with EU RoHS.
Four Phthalate Substances Added to China RoHS
Four additional phthalate substances have been added to the China RoHS list of hazardous substances. The full list of restricted substances is outlined below:

Mercury (Hg) | ≤ 0.1% |
Hexavalent Chromium [Cr(VI)] | ≤ 0.1% |
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) | ≤ 0.1% |
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) | ≤ 0.1% |
Cadmium (Cd) | ≤ 0.01% |
New Restriction Phthalates | |

Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) | ≤ 0.1% |
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) | ≤ 0.1% |
How to Check if Components are Affected by China RoHS
With SiliconExpert, you can check individual components to see if they are affected by China RoHS and many other global regulations, such as REACH, EU RoHS, TSCA, California Prop 65, and more. The SiliconExpert database also allows you to download datasheets and materials declarations for your individual parts.
SiliconExpert also makes it easy to quickly access your entire Bill of Materials for compliance. See if any components in your product lines are impacted by China RoHS and other compliance regulations, breakdown chemicals by substances mass, and generate roll up reports.
For larger bulk analysis, SiliconExpert can generate reports for your entire Approved Component List (ACL) to search your parts for substances by CAS number.
Manage All Your Compliance Needs with SiliconExpert
Managing and handling updates to environmental compliance regulations is complex enough; it’s worse when your data is siloed across the organization. With SiliconExpert, compliance managers, engineers, and procurement professionals can get the data insights and support needed. Streamline the fulfillment of your compliance requirements including:
Creating a Technical Data File to meet your ROHS obligations
Identifying hazardous substances included in your product for REACH (EU)
Filing with ECHA for SCIP Compliance
Identify chemicals to comply with Prop 65 (California)
Identifying the presence of PFAS chemicals in your product (Fines coming in 2027)
