Earthquakes Impact Taiwan Manufacturing
By: SiliconExpert on April 27th, 2022
April 27, 2022 – A series of earthquakes have rocked Taiwan over the past several weeks. Most notably, Hualien, a large city on Taiwan’s east coast, was struck by a 6.7 magnitude quake that left one person injured and impacted the structural integrity of the Yuxing Bridge, causing it to collapse.
- March 23, 2022 – Hualien, Taiwan – Magnitude 6.7 earthquake
- April 2022 – Kaohsiung City, Taiwan – Five earthquakes above magnitude 5.0
- April 18, 2022 – Hengchun, Taiwan – Magnitude 5.7 earthquake
- April 24, 2022 – Yilan, Taiwan – Magnitude 4.9 earthquake
Most of these earthquakes are within the 5.0 – 6.0 range, where only minor damage to buildings and structures occurs. However, they still pose a moderate risk to the supply and production of goods coming out of Taiwan.
Impacted Parts and Projections
To help get a better understanding of the scope of the risk, SiliconExpert has compiled a list of affected manufacturers and parts, as well as some projections on inventory, lead time, and price. This information has been compiled by SiliconExpert’s machine learning algorithm, which aggregates data from a wide range of events, including historical trends, to predict possible outcomes.
Impacted Parts | Projections |
---|---|
Power Management Circuits | Lead time to increase by 49% (Current lead time is 35 weeks) |
MLCC | Inventory of certain MLCC’s decreased by up to 58%, Pricing of Resistors to increase by 46% |
Gates | Lead time increased by 25% (Currently 41 weeks for gates) |
Buffers & Line Drivers, Inverters, Decoders, Gates, Shift Registers | Average Lead Time increased by 31% (Currently 39 weeks), Price increased by 4.5% |
